The Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and the Ottawa Business Journal (OBJ) are pleased to announce the 2018 Forty Under 40 recipients, one of the most prestigious business awards recognizing accomplished and rising business leaders under the age of 40 in the National Capital Region.
The 2018 awards yet again saw an impressive number of people engaged in the nomination process. More than 290 applications were submitted, making the selection process even more gruelling for a panel of independent judges.
This year’s recipients come from varied backgrounds ranging from craft brewing to technology, representing the diverse nature of the local business landscape.
“It’s fantastic to see the recipients hailing from different industries and backgrounds” says Ottawa Chamber President and CEO Ian Faris. “These young business leaders demonstrate the enormous amount of talent we have in this city. Their pioneering nature and visionary thinking will generate economic benefits in the years ahead as Ottawa is fast becoming the centre of talent attraction and innovation.”
This year, 55% of the recipients are females, and the average age of the recipient is 36.5 years. They were assessed on business accomplishments, professional expertise and for community involvement.
The independent judging panel included past recipients Iwona Albrecht of Soloway Wright, Patrick Dion of Patrick Dion Consulting, Robert Rheaume of BDO Canada, Dirk Bouwer of Perley-Robertson Hill & McDougall LLP, Sophia Leong of Telfer Executive MBA Program along with along with OBJ publisher, Michael Curran, OBJ print editor David Sali, and Ottawa Chamber President and CEO, Ian Faris.
In late May the recipients will meet at the Telfer Executive MBA facility for an afternoon of introductions and sharing their stories, and the group will be celebrated at a gala at the Hilton Lac-Leamy on June 15.
The Forty Under 40 awards are co-hosted by the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and the Ottawa Business Journal. A special upcoming edition of the Ottawa Business Journal will feature the 2018 recipients.
Social media users are encouraged to use #OTT40 to congratulate the 2018 recipients.
