Orléans Chamber of Commerce to Consolidate with Ottawa Board of Trade

The Orléans Chamber of Commerce and the Ottawa Board of Trade announced today that they will move forward to consolidate their respective operations.

Members of the Orléans Chamber of Commerce approved a motion to consolidate with the Ottawa Board of Trade, following a series of consultations and a week-long membership vote, which ended yesterday. The Orléans Chamber Board of Directors will now work to approve a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ottawa Board of Trade, that empowers them to enter into a legal consolidation agreement.

The concept of one Board of Trade for Ottawa has been a topic of discussion for several years, since the amalgamation of the municipality in 2001. After intensive consultations a trilateral consolidation plan was offered to all three Chambers of Commerce and in June the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and West Ottawa Board of Trade entered into a bilateral consolidation agreement, which was ratified by their respective members, to create the Ottawa Board of Trade.

We are delighted to welcome the Orléans Chamber of Commerce” said Ian Sherman and Mischa Kaplan, Interim Co-Chairs of the Ottawa Board of Trade. “This consolidation propels us to be the single most powerful entity for our business community to facilitate a stronger voice & enhanced economic diversity for the region, to the benefit of our members”.

“After comprehensive consultations, our members have given a clear verdict that this consolidation will enhance our synergies, to further bolster our Ottawa business community and to represent the region in a more substantial way” said Andrew Scott, Chair of the Orléans Chamber of Commerce.

The primary objective of one strong Chamber in Ottawa is that the entity will be uniquely positioned to impact community prosperity through advocacy and economic development; bring greater value and benefit to its members and potential members; and strengthen the voice of business in our community.
